At Dreamland Corp, we are committed to fostering a workplace that champions diversity and inclusion. Today, we’re excited to introduce Emily Zhang, a Data Analyst on our Business Intelligence Team. Emily’s expertise in data analysis, combined with her advocacy for accessibility within our Disability Employee Resource Group (ERG), exemplifies how inclusion drives innovation.
Q: Emily, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Dreamland Corp?
Emily: "I’ve been with Dreamland Corp for three years as a Data Analyst on the Business Intelligence Team. My role involves working with complex datasets to generate insights that help shape our strategic decisions. I love the storytelling aspect of data—uncovering patterns and translating numbers into meaningful insights. At a tech-driven company like Dreamland Corp, these insights have a real impact, which makes the work both exciting and rewarding."
Q: How has your personal experience with disability influenced your career in tech?
Emily: "I live with hearing loss, which has definitely shaped my approach to both technology and communication. It’s made me keenly aware that people engage with tools and information differently. This perspective has fueled my passion for making data more accessible, both in terms of how it’s presented and how it’s used. In my work, I strive to ensure that our data visualizations and reports are clear, intuitive, and usable for everyone. Accessibility can’t be an afterthought—it has to be integral to how we design and share information."
Q: How has being part of the Disability ERG shaped your experience at Dreamland Corp?
Emily: "The Disability ERG has been such an empowering part of my journey here. It’s more than a support system—it’s a group of changemakers. The ERG has provided me with a platform to advocate for more inclusive practices, like improving communication tools and ensuring that our workflows consider everyone’s needs. It’s inspiring to be part of a group that’s focused not only on supporting employees but also on driving accessibility within our products and services. The sense of community is amazing, and we’re all learning and pushing for progress together."
Q: Could you tell us about a project you’ve worked on that made a significant impact?
Emily: "One project I’m really proud of was leading the redesign of a data visualization dashboard for our sales team. We focused on making the dashboard fully accessible by incorporating alternative text for visual elements and ensuring the color schemes were optimized for people with color blindness. It wasn’t just about meeting accessibility standards—it was about ensuring that everyone could understand and benefit from the data. The positive feedback from colleagues was incredibly rewarding, knowing that these changes made a real difference."
Q: What advice would you give to others with disabilities who are interested in tech roles?
Emily: "Don’t view your disability as a limitation—instead, recognize it as a strength. My hearing loss has given me a deeper awareness of how technology can be improved for others, and that’s something valuable I bring to the table. Diverse perspectives are critical in tech because they lead to better, more inclusive solutions. My advice is to embrace your unique insights, push for accessibility wherever you can, and don’t hesitate to advocate for what you need in the workplace. And remember, there are support systems like ERGs that can help you along the way."
Q: What are your hopes for the future of accessibility at Dreamland Corp?
Emily: "I hope to see accessibility and inclusivity woven into every aspect of Dreamland Corp’s culture—from how we design products to how we work internally. We’ve made great progress, but there’s always room for improvement, especially when it comes to making our internal tools more accessible. My hope is that as we continue to grow, we set an industry example by fully integrating accessibility into everything we do, ensuring that it benefits both our customers and our employees."
