At Dreamland Corp, our commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment enables all employees to reach their full potential. Today, we are excited to highlight James Cooper, a member of our Disability Employee Resource Group (ERG) and a dedicated Lead UX Designer on the Product Design Team. James’s journey is a testament to the power of innovation and inclusivity in the workplace.
Q: Tell us about yourself and your role at Dreamland Corp.
James: "I’ve been with Dreamland Corp for eight years as a Lead UX Designer. In this role, I focus on creating intuitive, user-friendly designs for our core products. What excites me most about working in tech is its constant evolution, which allows me to push boundaries and innovate. This aligns perfectly with my passion for making technology accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities."
Q: How has your personal experience with disability shaped your perspective in the workplace?
James: "As someone living with mobility challenges due to muscular dystrophy, I’ve come to realize that accessibility is not optional—it’s essential. My personal experiences have given me a deep understanding of how crucial it is to design technology that works for everyone, no matter their physical or cognitive abilities. This insight drives me to advocate for accessibility at every stage of product development. I'm fortunate to work in a company like Dreamland Corp, where my voice is valued, and my ideas are implemented."
Q: How has the Disability ERG impacted your journey at Dreamland Corp?
James: "The Disability ERG has been a cornerstone of my experience here. It’s a platform for advocates and allies who are committed to driving inclusivity forward. Whether we're discussing accessibility in product design or ensuring our workplace is adaptable to diverse needs, the ERG has provided me with unwavering support and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our company’s culture."
Q: Can you tell us about a project you’re especially proud of?**
James: "One project that stands out was the redesign of our DreamAccess platform, where I collaborated with the design team to integrate accessibility features across the board. We added screen reader compatibility, high-contrast options, and customizable interfaces to ensure that the platform is user-friendly for people of all abilities. This project was a clear reminder that accessibility isn't just a 'nice-to-have'—it’s fundamental to creating an inclusive experience for everyone."
Q: What advice would you give to individuals with disabilities interested in tech careers?
James: "Never hesitate to advocate for yourself. The tech industry can feel overwhelming at times, but your unique perspective is both needed and valuable. Accessibility in technology is rapidly gaining attention, and your voice can lead to real, impactful change. I also encourage you to seek out communities like the Disability ERG or external groups where you can connect with others who share similar experiences. Building a strong support network is crucial."
Q: What are your hopes for the future of accessibility and inclusion at Dreamland Corp?
James: "I’d love to see accessibility become embedded into every facet of Dreamland Corp—from how we recruit talent to how we design our products and services. While we’ve made significant progress, there’s always room for growth. My hope is that we continue pushing the envelope, ensuring that **Dreamland Corp becomes a place where anyone, regardless of ability, can thrive and contribute."
